Before a Job Interview

Say This Before Your Job Interview

In the minutes before your interview, say this after me.

An interview is a conversation, not an audition — but it's hard to remember that when your palms are sweating. These lines aren't about pumping yourself up with false confidence. They're about reminding yourself of what's actually true: you prepared, you belong here, and the person you're about to meet is also just a person.

Say these

The lines

01I am prepared, and I know my value
02I am here because I earned the right to be
03I can speak clearly and let my real self show
04They're evaluating me, and I'm evaluating them
05Nervousness is not the same as unreadiness
06I can pause and think before I answer
07I have something real to offer
08This is a conversation between two professionals
09Whatever happens, I showed up and I tried

The ladder

If it feels fake, start lower

A bold affirmation you don’t believe can backfire. So don’t force “I belong in this room.” Start with a line you can accept today and climb as it starts to feel true — the same progressive ladder Say After Me uses.

1I am open to believing I've earned this shot
2I am learning to own what I've built
3I can walk in here and represent myself well
4I belong in this room

Method

How to practice these

01Find five minutes alone — a bathroom, a stairwell, your car outside the building.
02Say each line out loud, not in your head. Hearing your own voice steady is different from just thinking the thought.
03Slow down on 'they're evaluating me, and I'm evaluating them' — the flip in power matters.
04Walk in on 'I showed up and I tried' — it removes the attachment to outcome.

Questions

Questions

What if I blank mid-interview?

'I can pause and think before I answer' is on the list for exactly that reason. Practice the pause — say the line, then actually sit in silence for three seconds. When you've rehearsed the pause, it becomes a choice rather than a freeze.

Should I do these right before or the night before?

Both, but the right-before session matters most. The night before helps prime the general mindset; the five minutes before the door is when nervous system regulation is most needed. Say these out loud in the moment, not just earlier.

Make this a daily practice

You just did it once. Say After Me turns it into a habit — a natural voice leads, speech recognition verifies you said each line, and conviction scoring rates how confidently you delivered it, 0–10, so you can watch your confidence climb. Free to start.
